Different markets of the world have different names for the vehicles that we drive. Toyota is a brand that has several names for you.
While we may disagree regarding the pronunciation of some of the words in our language, what we don’t disagree on is what different items are. While you might say tomato several different ways there’s no discounting its use in our diets around the world.
The same can be said for different vehicles and what they happen to be when they are offered in a variety of markets around the world. The world, especially the automotive world, is actually much smaller than what we may think it is when we consider how many models are the same but offered under different names.
A Toyota by Several Names
Toyota has been one of the brands that offer a long history of providing us names in foreign countries that are different in North America. Recently, one example of different names being used for the same vehicle in a variety of ways is the Toyota Corolla iM.
The Corolla is a name we’ve known for many years but the Corolla iM is a completely different model that gives you the hatchback build you want when you drive. This car had a beginning that allowed it to become part of the Toyota lineup after some changes were made.
What were the changes?
The Toyota Corolla iM is sold in other markets as the Auris hatchback and started out its life in the US as the Scion iM. When Toyota chose to dissolve the Scion brand this was one of the many models that were part of this young brand that was eventually brought under the parent company of Toyota to be part of the lineup of Toyota.
This car has had three different names that we know of and it’s only been around for a few years, but it’s all the same car whether it’s in Japan or in the US. The Toyota Corolla iM is about to receive an upgrade that we’ll get a good look at when it shows up at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show under the Auris name alongside the new race car concept of the Toyota Supra.
Toyota Sets a Goal for this Car
The goal is to bring us a car that’s more dynamic from the exterior and offers a brand new 2.0-liter full hybrid powertrain to join the engine lineup we already see for the market. Right now, this car makes use of a 1.8-liter hybrid powertrain in the Auris that isn’t offered in the North American version of the car.

Which new version of the Auris/Corolla iM will make its way to the US? We’re not certain yet, but we can be certain there will be a model offered that gives us more of what we want when it’s time to head out on the road for a drive. This new hatchback version of the Corolla will ensure you have the choice you want when it’s time to find the right vehicle for the drive you’re ready to enjoy out on the roads in your area.
