2019 Lincoln Nautilus vs 2018 Cadillac XT5

As Lincoln looks to offer us the new version of their midsize SUV for us to drive by replacing the MKX with the 2019 Nautilus, we see there is a lot that’s similar between the two Lincoln models. The upgrades and improvements that bring this “first-ever” SUV name to the market make it one that we’re certain to admire and experience with joy on the road. The only question that we ask in regards to the Nautilus is how much it changes from the outgoing MKX to be more of what the market is calling for?

On the other hand, the Cadillac brand made an extremely simple change when it moved from the SRX to the XT5. The purpose in this name change was to hint at the fact that room would need to be offered to ensure the brand could add more SUVs to the midsize lineup in the future. The SRX had been the most popular Cadillac model on the market while it was around and the XT5 took over where it left off while giving us a more active platform for the drive to go along with more modern Cadillac features for us to admire.

Let’s Take a Look at the Comparison

The Powertrains

The Lincoln Nautilus that will be offered for 2019 makes a huge change under the hood. The previous MKX was powered by a 3.7-liter V6 engine but the new Nautilus will start out with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that’s mated to a new eight-speed automatic transmission. This powertrain can be had in either FWD or AWD and brings in 245 horsepower and 280 lb.-ft. of torque. The fuel mileage offered for this powertrain will show up at 25 combined in the FWD models and 24 combined mpg when AWD is the layout that’s chosen.
As we take a look at the Cadillac XT5 we find a familiar model that has the power we expect to be used. This is a 3.6-liter V6 engine that’s mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. The power comes in at 310 horsepower and 271 lb.-ft. of torque. That’s quite a bit more power than what the Nautilus will offer but the fuel mileage does show up lower at 22 mpg combined for the FWD models and 21 mpg combined for the AWD versions that you could choose for the drive.

Interior Roominess

Behind the rear seats the Lincoln Nautilus offers you 37.2 cubic feet while the Cadillac XT5 shows up with 30 cubic feet. Once the seats are put down, the expansion is to 68.8 cubic feet for the Lincoln model while the XT5 gives you 63 cubic feet of room to carry the items you need to take with you when you want to bring stuff home. This roominess is the same for the new Lincoln Nautilus as it was for the outgoing MKX to make sure you have the space you’re looking for on the road.

Which One is the Right Choice

Even though we only looked at a couple of items, the chart below gives you more of the specs you’ll want to discuss and take a look at. There’s a ton of tech features offered for both of these luxury models and the price of the new Nautilus is extremely close to what you would pay for the XT5. This means you’re going to have a tough decision to make when it’s time to choose the right SUV for you to drive. I guess you’ll have to visit both a Lincoln and a Cadillac dealership to make the decision that’s right for you.
