2015 BMW 5-Series

For a very long time the BMW 5-Series has been the top of the midsized luxury sports sedan for decades giving other automakers a goal to work toward, but one that always stays at least one step ahead, sometimes more. The 5-Series comes in a ton of different versions that offer a lot of different performances for any owners to fully enjoy. With a list of competitors that keeps on growing, including the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, Audi A6 and Lexus GS the competition feels like it’s getting closer and closer to the 5-Series, but never quite reaching the same style, performance, and comfort that is offered from this awesome BMW vehicle.

As the choice of many executives to enjoy a great sedan that offers them the ride and performance to make other executives jealous, the 5-Series offers exactly what many young execs are looking for. For 2015 the 5-Series adds more standard features to give an even better list of equipment than ever before and continue to stay ahead of the competition.

No matter which 5-Series is chosen the drive is amazing. Whether it’s the rear-wheel drive system or the all-wheel drive the drive in a 5-Series model offers plenty of enjoyment and control. This comes from the highly-engineered suspension that takes on any road defect with ease and allows owners to fully enjoy the drive of a car that can handle all curves and turns on the road. This vehicle also offers an amazing steering system that helps to respond quickly and deftly to the changes on the road around the vehicle.

The 5-Series continues to amaze by offering six powertrains across three different engines. This starts with the base model, BMW 528i, which is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine. This power plant offers up to 240 horsepower and 260 lb.-ft. of torque. This engine setup allows the owner to enjoy fur efficiency of 23 city/34 hwy mpg for the RWD model and 22 city/33 hwy mpg for the AWD version.

Next up starts the 3.0-liter engines. The first of these is a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline six-cylinder engine found in the 535i and 535i GT. This engine offers 300 horsepower and 300 lb.-ft. of torque to power this excellent machine. The fuel efficiency of this model comes in at 20 city/31 hwy mpg for the 535i RWD, 20 city/29 hwy mpg for the 535i AWD, 19 city/28 hwy mpg for the GT RWD and 18 city/26 hwy mpg for the GTAWD.

The next engine is a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline six-cylinder hybrid engine in the ActiveHybrid 5 model. This engine offers a better fuel efficiency while offering the same power numbers as the previous model. This fuel efficiency comes in at 23 city/30 hwy mpg to give an even more enjoyable visit to the gas pump each time you have to fill up.

The final 3.0-liter engine is the 3.0-liter turbocharged inline six-cylinder diesel engine in the 535d. This engine offers 255 horsepower and 413 lb.-ft. of torque while giving fuel efficiency numbers that come in at 26 city/38 hwy mpg for the RWD version and 26 city/37 hwy mpg for the AWD models.

Next up is the first of the two 4.4-liter engines which is a 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine which is under the hood of the 550i and 550i GT models. This engine brings the heat with 445 horsepower and 480 lb.-ft. of torque. This model comes in with fuel efficiency numbers of 17 city/25 hwy mpg for the 550i RWD model, 16 city/25 hwy mpg for the 550i AWD version, 16 city/25 hwy mpg for the RWD GT and 16 city/24 hwy mpg for the AWD GT.

The final engine for the 5-Series shows up in the M5 as the best performing engine which is a 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine that shows up with a mammoth 560 horsepower and 500 lb.-ft. of torque. This engine is the best performing and the only one that offers a manual transmission which gives a fuel mileage of 15 city/22 hwy mpg as well as an automatic transmission that shows up with 14 city/20 hwy mpg.

The BMW 5-Series is a highly equipped line of vehicles which shows up with a list of standard features that includes a navigation system, a moonroof, xenon headlights, automatic climate control, a ten-speaker audio system with HD Radio, 17-inch aluminum-alloy wheels. The leather interior is an option on the base model only and standard in all the rest. The 5-Series also offers four years or 50,000 miles of scheduled maintenance included in the deal to ensure the car is well taken care of while racking up the cruising miles.

The list of optional features is massive across all the trims with a great deal of packages to choose from. This list includes, but is not limited to, 20-way climate controlled front seats with massage functions, a hands free trunk opener, LED lights, a Bang & Olufsen sound system, a rear-seat entertainment system, lane departure warnings, active cruise control, a bird’s eye view camera system and a ton of amazing performance upgrades. All these features and more give the 5-Series plenty of toys to fully enjoy for anyone who is driving or riding along in any of the various models across this lineup.

Of course a great car will demand a decent price to start with. The 5-Series is certainly a great example of this rule with a starting base price for the 528i just above $50,000. The next model up, the 535i starts above $56,000 and the 550i comes in asking for $65,000 or more. At the top end the M5 shows off with the performance all desire and asks for a price that simply starts at $93,000 and heads up over the $100,000 mark very easily. The 5-Series Gran Turismo starts at a price around $61,000 giving a hatchback version to this great line of luxury sedans. Just about any model can be had with the AWD for an additional fee. The 5-Series continues to be a very enjoyable and industry leading sedan for the successful executives to fully enjoy and appreciate.
