2018 Mercedes-Benz G-Class Rugged Military Luxury

If ever there was an oxymoron of statements it would be “Rugged Military Luxury.” How can any vehicle fit all these aspects of driving in one package? It doesn’t seem possible or even probable, but the Mercedes-Benz G-Class is one that certainly fits the bill and offers us more from every facet of the vehicle to make sure you can have what you’re looking for. This impressive and imposing vehicle is one that was originally built to be used by the military, but it transformed into one of the most luxurious off-road brutes on the market and continues to be an amazing vehicle to drive on and off the road.

What do you see when you look at the G-Class? You’ll see a large and boxy SUV that appears to be what you would think the Jeep Wrangler was built from or vice versa. In fact, this beast is one of the longest-running models from this brand to be a vehicle that’s impressive and certainly worth your time when you want to head out on the trails. You’ll love the comfort and the quality you find inside this SUV when you’re ready to get out and perform.

For the 2018 model year, there are only a few upgrades that have been added. This is an SUV that’s mostly hand-built with care and craftsmanship that’s difficult to find anywhere else. A couple of the upgrades that have been added are the two new exterior colors. These colors are Orange Metallic and Ocean Blue Metallic which could be a pair that give you the look you want for the drive. Another addition you’ll find and be able to choose is the Red and Black special edition to offer a dynamic and alluring feel you’ll want to drive.

The Items You Expect

When you talk about a large and imposing SUV for the drive you expect it to have a ton of excellent qualities to enjoy the drive. The G-Class brings in what you’re looking for with the luxury you want from Mercedes-Benz added to the mix. This SUV starts out at the base model as the G 500 and it gives you Nappa leather seats that are heated and ventilated, dual-zone climate controls, an eight-inch infotainment system screen, a navigation system, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, a 12-speaker Harman/Kardon audio system, and a host of driver assistance features to go along with the amazing off-road hardware.

You wouldn’t see the G-Class as a luxury model unless you knew it was one that offered you some impressive options to choose from. This SUV allows you to add an adjustable suspension, a rear seat entertainment system, a heated steering wheel, a choice of design packages that offer plush leather seats, lacquered wood trim, and the mbrace Connect package with five years of remote smartphone access. You can also choose the Night Package which added black 19-inch AMG wheels, gloss black exterior accents and protective strips that give you the items you’re looking for.

Powering the Ride

The G 550 is the only non-AMG model for the G-Class and it’s powered by an impressive 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine that can give you 416 horsepower and 450 lb.-ft. of torque. This engine is attached to a seven-speed automatic transmission that helps give this big brute the ability to reach sixty mph in quick time and pull 7,000 pounds behind the vehicle for the drive. This powertrain lacks efficiency, but you’re not purchasing this SUV to be efficient, you’re looking at it to be powerful and fun for your drive out on the trails.
