Ford’s Mustang Mach-E was already popular but lagged behind competitors like the Chevy Equinox EV and the Honda Prologue. Now, it’s one of the top-selling electric vehicles of 2025.
Mustang Mach-E Off to a Record Start
Even though the Mustang Mach-E had limited production numbers in Q1 of 2025, its sales are off to a record start. The EV SUV brought 11,607 drivers to the Ford dealer in the first quarter of the year, up 21% from last year.
While the Mach-E is picking up its pace, the Ford F-150 Lightning took a slight hit to its sales levels. Last quarter, the EV pickup saw its sales drop 7%.
Chevy Now the Fastest-Growing EV Brand
Despite the Mach-E’s impressive performance, Chevrolet has taken first place as the fastest-growing EV brand. Its Blazer EV sold 6,187 units last quarter, while the Chevy Equinox sold 10,329.
While neither can give the Mach-E a run for its money by itself, these two EV SUVs explain the brand’s overall win when put together. GM remains the number two seller of EVs in the USA.
What About the Other Brands?
The Honda Prologue has been one of the best-selling EVs outside of Tesla’s models, at least in America. It had its top sales month in March, selling 2,884 units. However, the Prologue still can’t beat the Mach-E for first-quarter sales, at 9,561 SUVs sold.
Hyundai introduced an upgraded 2025 model of the IONIQ 5, increasing its range to 318 miles and allowing the use of Tesla charging ports, and its sales rose 26% in Q1 to 8,611 units sold.
Rivian doesn’t provide a breakdown for its R1S and R1T sales. There’s no way to say how the up-and-coming automaker is faring in competition against more established brands until registration data gets released.
Why the Mach-E Outperforms the Competition
The Ford Mustang Mach-E outperforms the competition thanks largely to its sporty performance, Mustang-inspired styling, and impressive versatility. The Mustang Mach-E offers impressive power and performance yet still functions well as a family SUV.
Ford has also made significant improvements to the 2025 Mustang Mach-E and, at the same time, cut the prices for its popular EV SUV. All Mach-E models now come standard with a heat pump to improve cold-weather performance, for example, and that’s not all that’s new.
BlueCruise has improved features. The Mustang Mach-E’s infotainment system also got an upgrade. The Connectivity package now comes with a 5G-powered Wi-Fi hotspot and added apps. A new Sport Appearance package can be applied to the Premium trim to make it look more like the Mach-E GT.
