As one of the last shows of the spring, the New York Auto Show is where we saw several new models, as we look to the future of what the industry will bring us.
There are several excellent concepts and production models that are certainly worth talking about that can be considered winners or losers from this show. Let’s take a look at a few of them now:
Volkswagen Tanoak Concept
This is a pickup truck built on the MQB platform that can be an excellent choice when you need to haul items but you don’t want to choose a conventional pickup. This is a winner at the show as one that could give the Honda Ridgeline a run for its money and offer us the unibody built, 276 horsepower from the V6 engine, AWD, and some off-road capability that can be easy to enjoy when you drive.
2019 Nissan Altima
It’s time for a new Altima to be part of the market and this one is certainly attractive, alluring and ready to give us the look and the drive we want to enjoy on a daily basis. This is the first time the Altima will be offered with AWD to make sure you can have the added control you want. This Altima is a clear winner and one that you’ll be looking forward to as we come closer to the launch date.
Lincoln Aviator Concept
This car wasn’t a surprise for you to see it at the show, this vehicle was a clear winner to be the one that you can be amazed by and eventually offer an alternative to the Navigator in the Lincoln lineup. This model is using the CD6 platform and will likely have a twin-turbocharged V6 under the hood and may even bring us a plug-in hybrid powertrain that can allow you to have the drive you want.
2019 Hyundai Santa Fe
Here’s an excellent model that will enter production soon and offer us the power and fuel efficiency of a 2.4-liter engine that can be right for the drive when you head out on the road. This crossover is a clear winner and one that will let us have the fun and active drive we want when it’s time to have a great ride. The body has been upgraded and the feeling is better in the new Santa Fe.
Genesis Essentia Concept
We’ve wondered what the Genesis brand would bring for us to enjoy in the future but this is a concept model that might not make its way to the market. This was a huge surprise and it certainly garnered a ton of attention at the show with the monocoque structure and the swoopy shell that allows this all-electric drivetrain be one that could reach sixty mph in three seconds, making it a clear winner.
2019 Toyota RAV4
This new SUV has us on the fence as it rides on a brand new platform and looks nice but it does seem to lose some of the appeal after you see the front of the vehicle. This is a hot-selling crossover SUV that will be able to continue to give you the ride you’re looking for but it will certainly also allow you to have the drive you want on the road. We’re undecided regarding the RAV4 and hope it will become a winner.
Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport Concept
This is another model that we’re not sure about when it comes to the grade that it should get. This is a concept SUV that’s built on the MQB platform and it brings a smaller footprint than the larger model with the same name. This model makes use of a 3.6-liter V6 engine that also uses two electric motors to let you have the power you want of 355 ponies galloping under the hood to make sure you can have a great drive.
2019 Cadillac XT4
This may be a brand new model that’s coming from the Cadillac brand to let us have a smaller and more active model to enjoy, but it seems to be a bit of a loser in this list. This SUV will make use of a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine and a nine-speed automatic transmission for the drive. Let this be the model you want and hold your own opinion, but it could have been much better.
2019 Subaru Forester
Here’s a new model of the Forester that will give you the drive you want out in the wilderness, but it looks just like the old model that will no longer be built. How can you call a model a new one when it doesn’t give you an upgrade in style? This is a vehicle that can be one you want, but on this list, it’s a bit of a loser.
