The CX-90 is only 1.4 inches longer, 0.6 inches taller, and one inch wider than the outgoing CX-9. The size of this new Mazda puts it near the top of the list when it comes to three-row midsize SUVs and how big they can be. The only place you’ll actually see a huge difference in size is the wheelbase, which is 7.5 inches longer in the new CX-90 than the outgoing model.
How much power does this Mazda SUV offer?
The new Mazda CX-90 comes with two powertrains and three different tuning levels. The standard Turbo model uses a 3.3-liter turbocharged 6-cylinder engine with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system. In this version, you’ll have 280 horsepower and 332 lb-ft of torque. Move to the Turbo S, and you’ve got the same engine, but it’s tuned to 340 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque. The Turbo S requires premium fuel, but the Turbo model does fine with regular gasoline.
The PHEV version of the CX-90 is powered by a 2.5-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine and one electric motor. These elements combine to offer 323 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque. This hybrid powertrain also requires premium fuel to operate efficiently.
How many seats do you need?
Most three-row SUVs offer an option for second-row captain’s chairs at higher trim levels, but this Mazda SUV brings one additional option for you. The third row can be had with either two or three seats across a bench, giving you seating for six, seven, or eight people in this Mazda SUV. Of course, not all seating configurations are offered for every trim. Once you answer the number of seats you need, you can choose a trim that matches that number.
Cargo room where you want it
This new Mazda CX-90 has similar qualities to many of the three-row midsize SUVs we see in the market. The third row can be tight but great for small children. The cargo room offered measures 16 cubic feet behind the third row. This area expands to 40 cubic feet with the rearmost seats down and 75 cubic feet with the rear two rows folded.
