Whether you hear the name of the Cadillac Escalade or the Lexus GX, you immediately picture the large, imposing and luxurious SUV that you want to drive.
Both of these large SUV models are big and ready to offer you the power and performance you want with a smooth drive and the upscale luxury features that you can absolutely admire and enjoy. We’re looking to the 2014 model year to try and find the right one of these two models as the used SUVs that you can enjoy in the full-size luxury SUV category.
The Power Can Make a Difference
Look under the hood of the Cadillac Escalade and you’ll see a 6.2-liter V8 engine that’s attached to a six-speed automatic transmission for your drive. This powertrain is set up in AWD form to give you the drive you want and 403 horsepower along with 417 lb.-ft. of torque for the ride. The Lexus GX makes use of a 4.6-liter V8 engine that produces 301 horsepower and 329 lb.-ft. of torque for the drive. This engine is also attached to a six-speed automatic transmission and its set up in 4WD to give you the capability you want on the trails.
Spacious Capability for Your Drive
While we don’t concern ourselves with fuel mileage in either of these massive brutes, the capability you’re looking for is a differentiating factor. The Cadillac Escalade offers you a tow rating of 8,100 pounds and a payload capacity of 1,582 pounds to make sure you can take items with you. Look at the Lexus GX and you’ll have a tow rating of 6,500 pounds but this model isn’t rated for payload. This gives you a leading edge for the Escalade which can be used when you need to carry a load of materials home.
Interior Space for Your Comfort
Because both of these vehicles reside in the full-size luxury SUV market, you’re going to want to enjoy the comfort of a spacious cabin. The Cadillac Escalade has a longer wheelbase and it is a longer vehicle than the Lexus GX. The Lexus GX does have an advantage with greater legroom in the front and rear to make you and your passengers a little more comfortable. Put the seats down and the Escalade offers you 108.9 cubic feet of room for your gear while the Lexus GX only offers you 64.7 cubic feet of usable space.
A Long List of Items You’ll Enjoy
Whether you choose the Cadillac Escalade or the Lexus GX, you’re going to find a long list of items that make the drive worth it. These include air conditioning, cruise control, a stereo with a CD player, a premium radio system, power locks, mirrors, and windows, power front seats, a folding rear seat, remote keyless entry, a rear window defroster, and a tilt steering wheel. The Cadillac uses the OnStar system for your communications while the Lexus makes use of the Safety Connect system that’s been developed by the team.
Finding the Differences that Make Your Choice
Even though both of these luxury models offer you similarities, they also bring you several differences. More standard items on the Cadillac include rear air conditioning, leather upholstery, and a navigation system to give you more features found in every model. If you want these items in the GX, you have to be lucky enough to find a used model that has them because they are all options that you can choose for the drive. The GX does bring you a standard moonroof, which is an item not offered in the Escalade.
Are You Ready to Choose?
The price you’ll pay for the 2014 models of the Cadillac Escalade or Lexus GX will be significantly more affordable than a new model. What you need to do is figure out which one of these luxury rides is what you want. Do you want more power, size, and capability? If so, the Cadillac is the right choice for you. If you’re looking for more legroom and the reliability that comes with the Lexus name, the GX will be the right choice for you. Locate these two models in your area and take a test drive to see which large and luxurious SUV will be right for you.
