The 2022 GMC Canyon comes in four different trim options: Elevation Standard, Elevation, AT4, and the Denali. If you’re shopping for a new Canyon at your local GMC dealer, it’s a good idea to be aware of all the features and differences of these Canyon models.
Elevation and Elevation Standard
The Elevation Standard trim starts at $26,800 and comes equipped with a four-cylinder engine that makes 200 horsepower and is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission and RWD. This Canyon trim is a pretty basic work truck without a lot of extra niceties. The default layout is an extended cab with a long bed, but you have the option of getting a crew cab with a short bed. To get 4WD, you will need to upgrade to a V6 version.
The Elevation starts at a bit more than the base trim at $30,300. Its standard layout is an extended cab with a long bed, and the same engine comes standard, but a V6 upgrade is available. The main difference with this trim is a few more niceties on the inside.
The AT4 is an all-new trim that you can find at your GMC dealer. It starts at $38,400 with cloth seats, and all models feature the upgraded 3.6-liter V6 engine that makes 308 horsepower. The AT4 also comes standard with 4WD and an eight-speed automatic transmission. This trim comes with all the niceties and assistance features from the Elevation trim, but you can add an upgraded infotainment system and leather seats for an additional $1,095 and a $42,130 starting price.
Coming soon to a GMC dealer near you is the new AT4X, which is the off-road trim of the GMC Canyon. The AT4X will come out with the new 2023 Canyon and features a three-inch factory lift and a number of off-road additions like a heavy-duty skid plate and Baja Mode.
The Canyon Denali is the top-of-the-line model, and it starts at $42,100 for the basic 2WD crew cab layout with a short bed. Denali models are extremely popular at GMC dealers and account for nearly 30% of all GMC sales per year. Most of the upgrades for lower trims come standard on the Denali, including a seven-speaker audio system, navigation, ventilated seats, leather seats, and much more. For towing purposes, you’ll get a tow/haul mode and hitch guidance. The Denali is more of a luxury vehicle than an off-road vehicle, so keep that in mind if you’re considering paying the higher price.
When it comes to choosing between the trims, the main thing to consider is what you need them for. If you’re looking for something more oriented towards off-road use, then the AT4 is probably your best choice. Otherwise, the Canyon Elevation is a great mid-level trim.
