Auto manufacturers like Hyundai have to make tough decisions every year about their vehicle lineup. For 2023, The Hyundai Motor Company decided to make some significant changes to its lineup. Most notably, the Accent, Veloster N, and Ioniq HEV & PHEV will no longer be part of the production plan. Why Vehicles Are Discontinued
In some cases, the decision to put a particular model on the chopping block comes down to the numbers. Manufacturers only have so many raw materials and so much production space, so they have to stick with vehicles that make the best return on investment.
These numbers don’t always mean a vehicle isn’t any good or that there’s something wrong with it. The Hyundai Accent, for example, has always been an amazing sedan. The reason it’s no longer being made is that shoppers are heavily leaning towards SUVs, like the new or used Hyundai Santa Fe. With ultra-popular cars like the Sonata and Elantra on the road, Hyundai sees more room for growth with SUVs than additional sedans.
The Veloster N is a thrilling and unique ride that is well-loved by every person who gets behind its wheel. At the same time, smaller hatchbacks are losing ground to SUVs as well.
In other cases, like with the Ioniq, a cease in production only means something better is coming. The Ioniq is moving from being a single car to an entire brand of fully-electric vehicles. Hyundai has already announced the Ioniq 5 EV, and several more with this nameplate coming down the pipeline soon. We’re not as much losing the Ioniq as we’re gaining an entire brand of incredible vehicles.
Safe Models May Not Be Easy To Find
With the current auto market, a vehicle that’s still in production may not be easy to find. The COVID-19 pandemic really did a number on new car inventories. While manufacturing is picking back up, the numbers of available vehicles just aren’t where they used to be.
The good news is that you can still find the rides you love, including the ones getting the axe for 2023, in the used section of a car lot.
