Even though we expect many of the sports cars and high-powered SUVs that are offered by European brands to be shown off at the Frankfurt Motor Show, one model made an early debut and captured our attention in a way that makes us want more of what we’ve already seen with this model. The new 2018 Porsche Cayenne Turbo came to Frankfurt with all the buzz that a vehicle could ask for and it continues to be one of the most impressive models that we’ve had a great look at in a long time.
One of the most exciting aspects of the new version of the Porsche SUV we already love is the power received from under the hood. This SUV uses a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine that has the turbos mounted inside the cylinder V which reduces the turbo lag because of the shortened exhaust path. This new power plant offers up 550 horsepower and 567 lb.-ft. of torque which is more in both cases than the outgoing Cayenne Turbo which used a larger engine but had less power. This new engine is mated to an also new eight-speed automatic transmission and is offered with AWD to make it possible to reach sixty mph in less than 3.9 seconds on the way to a top speed of 177 mph.
Power isn’t all this new version of the Cayenne Turbo has going for it, the chassis uses the Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) system with active dampers and a three-chamber air suspension that has six selectable ride height levels. This is aided by the Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC) and the Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus system that brings to combine optional rear axle steering to make it possible for this SUV to have the driving dynamics that are similar to a sports car.
More Sport
The new Cayenne Turbo features an adaptive roof spoiler that can be retracted and deployed as needed to help the SUV slow down and assist the vehicle when it’s time to slow down. The air brakes offered also help to slow the vehicle, even more, to give this SUV the control you’re looking for when you take it out for a quick ride on the track or out on the open road. You can also have this SUV with carbon ceramic brakes if you want more of what you’re looking for during the drive you take.
Inside the new Cayenne Turbo offers a large high-res display and the Porsche Advanced Cockpit digital dashboard. You’ll get to listen to the 710-watt Bose audio system which is standard and you’ll have the comfort of the 18-way power adjustable heated seats and a multi-function sport steering wheel to put you in the right position to pilot the new Cayenne Turbo where you need to go out on the road or at the track. This is certainly an SUV that’s worth another look and the fact that Porsche brought it to Frankfurt to show off, gives us that second and deeper look we wanted.
